Well here I am at the old Days Inn in Abilene, Texas. I had a Texas Dip sandwich at the Skillet restaurant and it was surprisingly like a roast beef sandwhich with a side of au jus sauce or gravy or whatever they call that stuff.
In case no on mentioned this before, Texas is big, really big. I left eastern Lousiana this morning and have just made it to Abilene after driving all day. Tomorrow I want to hit New Mexico if I can. I have taken to driving during the day so I can see this country and sleeping at night. Night driving doesn’t hold the same charm it used to when I was younger and since I’ve never been this far west before, I want to see the land.
My grandfather homesteaded in Montana and decided he wanted to see the Pacific Ocean. So he rode his horse as far as Needles, but then he got real sick and had to cut the trip short, so he never made it to the coast. I don’t know if the horse ever made it to the Pacific. With a little luck I’ll ride the old Black Mariah to the Pacific and maybe vegas, too.
But mostly what I want to do is to find a warm and quiet place to winter and write my book on human consciousness. The notes are written though I still have more indexing to do, but the writing needs to happen soon.
Last night I dreamed that I was Abraham Lincoln and I was at a social event and sat between two ladies. I was a little shy and remember taking an envelope out of my pocket because I wanted to write something down. The funny thing is that I really felt like Abe Lincoln and though I didn’t realize it at the time, i was probably writing the famous Gettysburg address. But it didn’t feel like I was writing something that would be remembered a century later, just felt like i was jotting down a quick note. I think it was my subconscious telling me to take this writing project seriously, though I am no Abe Lincoln, maybe his ghost was trying to tell me that we never know how important something we say or write might be.
Well anyhow, that is all the news that is fit to print.
